I've been taking Italian for five years and have done rather well in my classes. My Italian class in my senior year was supposed to be AP Italian Language, but I was just notified that because there were not enough sign-ups, the school would not receive allowance by College Board to make it an AP course (or something). Instead, the class will be as advanced as an AP class, and we'll still receive designation as far as weighting goes, but the class won't be called AP and we won't be able to take the test in conjunction with the school. I'm pretty confident that if I took the test, I'd do well. Should I self-study the material in the AP curriculum and figure out a way to take the test on my own, or should I not go through the trouble because it's my senior year anyway and I'm still getting the weighting? If it makes any difference, I'd like to minor in Italian.

You misunderstood the notification. It’s not just your school; AP Italian simply no longer exists. You can’t self-study for the test, because there will be no such test.
