SAT II doesn’t even matter as much as the normal SAT, doesn’t matter as much as GPA, or ECs, or a good essay, or recommendations, or a strong interview. Once you’re past 700 on it, it’s just a little boost.

In other news, if you think 20 points on the SAT II matter that much then… How do you manage the scores? You’re clearly not the brightest :P

These threads and the posters who make them drive me up the goddamn wall.

Listen. You, OP. Listen.

Do not base your standards of success on what you have seen posted here. Don’t. Absolutely do not. A 780 is an excellent score. You are fine. Quit allowing your perception of achievement to be dictated by some anonymous poster on an internet forum.

With 790 on Math II and 740 on both Chem and US, I got wait listed to Stanford and Yale, plus accepted to Dartmouth, Wharton, Cornell, UChicago, and Williams. Of all the reasons I think of for not getting accepted into HYPS, my subject test scores (or my 2300) are not one of them: I should have sent in a music supplement, dedicated more than a week to my essays, or gotten more tangible awards for my extracurriculars. Then again, if this is not a ■■■■■ thread, my guess is that the perspective of a UChicago attendee and a HYPS reject is not worthy of someone considering not blemishing their application with a 780 in Chem.

Don’t worry. I got 780 on chem and math2 only a 800 on ph. But I send then altogether .SAT2 is not so important that it can actually diminish your opportunity to Harvard . Even if you got 2400 on sat2, you might also get a rejection.

There has been no useful information in this thread.

780 was the 84th percentile in 2012, statistically the best out of 6.25 test takers. Make of it what you will; I have an opinion on it but who cares?

Now there is useful information in this thread.

I’m sorry if this thread is being construed as a “fishing for compliments” thread, but that just isn’t the case. I already have two perfect SAT Subject test scores, so I don’t even need to send this one. I wanted to know whether sending it would be worthwhile.

@halogen percentiles vary greatly for each administration of the subject tests. And the data is further skewed by the higher abundance of academically gifted students taking these tests. So, percentiles do not matter to me and likely do not matter to colleges. The score matters. Any 750+ score shows mastery and capability in a subject area. That’s all the colleges use subject test scores for. And even then, it will not be a deal breaker unless the scores are under 700. Get over yourself
