should I send a follow up email?

Hi cc community,

I sent in an application for a software engineering internship to Visa a few months back and I got a reply from their hiring team. They told me to take a coding test on hackerrank which I then did and told them when I finished. I believe I did very well on the test. It was two questions, one was designing a mars rover to move around on a grid given directions, which I passed all 20 test cases (In hackerrank it tests your code and you can see the results). The second question involved me using a triple nested for loop - which passed 19/20 cases and the 20th case must have been really larger because it timed out- meaning my code needed to be a bit faster. I then got an email saying they reviewed my application on smart recruiters - but that was 3 months ago. I have since heard nothing from them and it has been stagnant. I haven’t heard any updates - it’s for a position in summer 2019.

I was considering sending a follow up email, but am really unsure of what to say. I don’t really have a lot of experience in the work world so some advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would send one to whomever originally contacted you and just say something along the lines of, “Hi, I just wanted to follow up to see if this position is still open. I remain interested and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further.”

Good luck!

@suzy100 that sounds great thank you - I will do then give an update.

@suzy100 my recruiter said the position is still open and I am still in consideration, but she would like to see an updated resume: she mentioned she wants to see my soft skills as well as projects I have worked on so far in college. It has been awhile since I have applied so my resume has improved but I really want to shine here so I think I will go to the career center and get help with it.

That’s a great idea. Continued good luck!
