I'm applying to a few schools that do not require SAT scores; one of them is Brown. I received a 1960 (630 CR, 640 WR, 690 M), but can do MUCH better. I am scheduled to take the March SAT, but Brown is the only school I'm applying to that won't take the March SAT. I have around a 3.7 from a CC with an exceptional story, excellent EC's, and good high school grades. All this being said, should I send my 1960 to Brown?

No.

Thanks for your input! Care to elaborate? I forgot to add I have a 1550 on my high school transcript (eek I know but I have my reasons), but it is my understanding that they will not consider this score. Would this change your opinion?

Do you have a choice to send them or not?
I thought Brown required SAT scores from Transfer students.
I’m not applying to Brown, but I looked at their website and it said “If you’ve taken them, you must send.” Something along those lines.

they require them if you go to a college that required sat scores. i go to a cc so i am not required to send them…but the 1550 is on my hs transcript. send the 1960 or not?

You should.
That 1550 will look kind of negative.
At least you will show vast improvement with a 1960.
Best of luck to you.

they say they don’t consider your sat scores unless you actually have them sent. how true is this? will they mentally take note of that 1550 even though it’s not official?

You didn’t mention that in your original post. If that’s the case, I would go ahead and send the 1960.

Alright sounds good. I appreciate your guys’ input. Any other suggestions?

Brown is a good school.
Write an excellent essay.

^Ditto.

And be sure to emphasize your strengths as much as possible throughout your application and essays. Good LORs will help, too.

Basically, do what you can to draw attention away from your test scores.

Thanks guys. My essay is phenomenal (no, really) so hopefully I won’t immediately get thrown out. A 1960 at Brown or Penn isn’t an instant throwaway, is it?
