Should I start my other apps and forget about Rice?

I attend a public school in GA. Not very competitive. Hardly anyone goes to the Ivys or other top 20 schools. I really want to go Rice and I applied ED. I am unsure of whether or not I will get in because my grades/test scores are both low. I have great ECs (IMO) and I am AA. Plus, I have shown lots (I mean a lot) of interest in Rice.

SAT MA-650, CR-620, WR-600
SAT II Bio 750, US History 630

My GPA is only a 3.5uw (school doesnt weight) and I'm ranked abt 53/500
I have taken THE MOST demanding schedule including 3 yrs of French and 1 yr of Latin

Last year had AP classes in Gov, Hist(4) , and Bio(3)

As a child I was abused and raped and then went to live with my grandma. In 2007, she passed away and then I had to move from OH to GA in the middle of junior year.
Worked 15-20hr/week (part of that at church though, I was there nearly every day!) to supplement our family income

I think it looks like I do too much but I was actually very involved in everything that I did.

Recs - One from AP US History teacher, kinda boring and basic but nice.
Other from my pastor it should be great too. He said he had to chop it down from 2 pgs though. (I'm upset Rice only looks at teacher and counselor)

Essays

Common - About me overcoming abuse, rape, suicide, and my grandma's death and how it helped me to become a better person

Supplement - How being in Africa changed me and I now value others differently

Schools

RICE - ED I want this school so badly - info session, overnight visit, great interview
The woman who will read my app (I know she will) knows me by name and face (long story)

Other schools if Rice rejects me
Emory (EDII) - visited and info session
Vanderbilt - interview (sends me lots of stuff if that matters)
Cornell
UGA - safety
Morehouse - safety

So any chance???

eh we shall see in a week.... GOOD LUCK BRO

Considering how you have overcome a lot, and your out of state, urm status, you have a good chance of getting in..........but in order to play it safe, just continue working on your other applications, it doesn't hurt to start....

I also applied Ed to Rice, and I have started working on my other apps, mainly my safteys...

Good Luck, next monday......

I did EA to UGA, so that's done. The Morehouse one is very easy. I also have Emory's finished. Should I get more recs or just chill out?

Every ED candidate needs to keep moving and have everything in place for other apps. This is not the time to chill!

Work on your essays-- it sounds really clicie

I don't want to be a party pooper, but I would say your chance of getting in is probably around 30%. Your story and ECs look fantastic, but your scores and gpa (because your school is not competitive to begin with) are not really Rice quality. Also your other top 3 are going to be pretty difficult as well. If I were you, I would maybe look for a couple more matches, but I am rooting for you! Good luck.

My GC said that I have an excellent chance because I'm ED, URM, OOS and they are trying to increase their freshman class. She said that my GPA is decent and my SATs are still in the Rice range because CR 640-750 means that 25% had 750-800 and another 25% had ~590-640. MA 670-780 25% 780-800 and another 25% 650-670. She said what really tips the scales are my EC's and whatnot. I do not know whether or not to trust her because she is new.

Also, I have heard that most of the ED applicants for Rice come from the Houston/ Texas area of being OOS helps tremendously in ED.

bump bump please

anyone else?

no one else has any input?
