Should I stay or Go?

I fulfill my degree reqs this fall at my community college in NJ. Recently I have been diagnosed with ADHD and the treatment has really helped me focus ALOT! I am confident that I can earn straight A's this semester and in the spring. My current GPA is 3.0.

My questions are;
1. I have 5 withdrawals since fall 2010. 1 the first semester and 4 a year later due to personal reasons. (I dropped the entire semester.)
How is this going to affect my tranfers status?
2. I got a "C" in public speaking due to a attendance issue. Shold I retake the class to boost GPA?
3. I am applying to Temple and Rutgers NB or Camden. Should I apply for spring 2014 w/ 3.0GPA or try to boost GPA(3.1-3.3Tops) for fall 2014 admission?

I really would prefer Upenn LPS or Honors Programs in the schools listed above. However, I know I am not going to get that with a 3.0GPA. Hence, should I start over at another local community college, attend for a year and apply w/ higher GPA?

Finally, If I do start over at another CC. Will my transfer institution know about all the schools I attending previously?

Thank all of you in advance and please do not be afraid to be honest. I want to attend the best law school I can get into and I am freaking out that if I don't get into an Honors program or Upenn, I am doomed.

I’m still applying for college as a HS student so don’t take my advice with much thought xP.

1- Well if you explain about your situations I’m sure it will help colleges understand why your grades were lower than they could have been, although a 3.0 is still good! Other than that, you should be fine, medical conditions aren’t going to deny you acceptances!

2- That would definitely help!

3- If you think that you could get that 3.1-3.3 then I would definitely shoot for it, but if you feel that you can still get in with your gpa then there isn’t a point to waste extra time/money. Can you apply for Spring and Fall? If so then I would try applying to both!

4- Your community college/any college/any university gpa is going to be on your transcript no matter where you go I believe.

5- Yes.

Also, you don’t have to get into UPenn/Honors to get into a good law school! You just need to work super hard at whatever Uni. you go to. Good luck!!

hi I would not restart from scratch however I would retake the courses that you had to withdraw from for whatever the reasons. All the schools you want to get into except for UPenn would take you with a slightly higher GPA.

With regards to whether the school will know about previous colleges/schools on your transcript yes they will. In some states, if not all, it is mandatory that you give ALL schools and their transcripts. If they find out that you failed to submit other transcripts that you have they may not accept you or possibly withdraw your application.

I think you stand a fair chance at Temple but you would stand a better chance if you have a GPA around 3.3. According to their website Temple requires a 3.3 GPA for transfer students minimally.

If you are serious about Rutgers you need to have a slightly better GPA then what you would need for Temple. If you retake the courses and get an A in those classes or a high B then I think both schools provide you with a decent shot at being admitted.

In either case you would need to retake at least 2 courses and pass with an A or B+.

UPenn on the other hand you will need around a 3.7 GPA in order to be considered for admissions. The positive thing to take away though is that no matter where you apply students with ADHD have a support system and will not hurt your odds of acceptance.

Thank you for your responses. I decided to stay for another year and improve my stats a little. Thanks for the advice.

Don’t neglect to consult a transfer advieor, especially before retaking classes.

Thank you, BrownParent. I am meeting with an advisors today.
