Should I submit a music supplement?

Hi CC,

I’m trying to figure out whether I should submit a music supplement to my schools. I’m definitely not going to pursue music as a field of study, but I’m very interested in joining choral groups while I’m in university.

I started singing when I was just 1 years old, so (needless to say) music has been a huge part of my life. We received a gold standing at nationals last year; the chamber choir also came first at a festival this year and we’re performing at Carnegie Hall in February.

So, is it worthwhile to submit a supplementary recording on my Common App? And, if so, do I submit a solo recording or one of the whole choir?

What voice type? Do you have any achievements in voice that were not group awards for your choir? You would have to submit solo recordings.

If you don’t have significant solo achievements for voice, I would advise against submitting a supplement. It is not necessary for someone who just want to participate in groups on campus.

A choir piece will not do anything to help your application if they don’t hear your voice. Only consider sending if you had a long solo.
