I will be applying to UPenn in the fall and they only accept either the SAT or the ACT. Not both. For my SAT, i took it multiple times. My best scores are

650 R 620 M 530 W :(
580 R 640 M 520 W

For the ACT, i got a composite score of 28.. i've only taken it once.

30E 30M 25R 25S 28E&W

What do you guys think i should submit? My reading and math is decent on my SAT but the total score is brought down a lot by my bad writing/essay score. My ACT english and math is ok too.. just brought down by reading and science.

Neither. It’s unrealistic to think you have any chance at all at UPenn with those scores without some really great backstory. Think Penn State, not UPenn.

Thank you for your constructive comment @MrMom62. Your comment is completely unnecessary considering you dont know the rest of my application that i will be submitting.

Make your case - I’m not seeing it right now. I’m happy to be wrong, but those sort of scores don’t get accepted unless you have some sort of hook, and it better be a good one. Really good.

FWIW, no one else here will tell you differently unless they’re humoring you. We’re aren’t here to stroke your ego, we’re here to help you reach your goal or tell you to get a new one. If you don’t want to hear the truth, then don’t post only stats that are clearly non-competitive without a compelling case why they should even look at you.

If you really want to apply I would suggest send both. Also I would highly recommend you study hard this summer and retake your ACT or SAT in the fall. You have a chance but it’s really really small. Good luck tho :D

And is your family really poor? If you are, you might want to consider applying through Questbridge as it will help you a little.

What are your subject test scores? If they are not that great, then definitely submit ACT.

Also, while I know the poster was not asking for chances, and MrMom may have been a little harsh, unless you have fantastic grades, spectacular ECs and probably a strong hook (eg recruited athlete), your odds at UPenn are slim to none. If you have a good GPA with high rigor, consider some testing-optional schools.
