Hi all! I was wondering if anyone here had insight on whether I should send my SAT score to Wellesley. I was only able to take the SAT score once, and am not very satisfied with my score. That said, I do hold myself to a high standard, so the score might actually be good enough - I just need another opinion.
My composite score is 1420. The source of my apprehension is that my math score is at the very bottom of Wellesley’s range (680 math, 740 English). While I am not planning to major in a STEM field, where a high math score may be necessary, I’m still not sure if it’s worth sending in… without it, I have a 97.5 unweighted GPA, ranked 1/150 at my school, and 5s on all AP exams I have taken thus far. I just don’t want a poor SAT score to be the cause of my rejection!
You can show Wellesley a great overall standardized testing profile, and, in my opinion, your notably fine 740 EBRW result should be made known to them. I understand your tentative reservations about your math score, but it falls within the range at which this should not be of major concern.
Of course, there is no correct answer to your question, but because your grades and rank are near flawless, I would make the choice NOT to send your scores. I believe you have more downside than upside if you submit and that is not just because of the math score. The composite also brings down your candidacy. Obviously, your application needs to be as strong as possible to support the grades and rank you have achieved. Best of luck! And if you do decide to submit, I still think you are a good applicant. I realize many people would suggest submitting because you are in the middle of the range, but 1/150 feels right in our test optional year.
I vote NO, do NOT send them your SAT. Do not send ANY college your SAT. Your being first in your class, with a nearly perfect GPA, says you did the best anyone could at that school. And 5’s on all your AP exams so far? You’re batting a thousand. Frankly, your SAT would say to the school that you did very nicely so far, but maybe you don’t have the right stuff to do very well going forward (which I am sure is NOT the case, but that’s what they might think from that SAT).
Your grades and AP exam scores scream top one percent. Your SAT says 96th percentile. And it’s NOT a flat line - the difference between 99th percentile and 96th percentile is significant. The admin committee is likely to assume that without the pandemic, you would have achieved a 99th percentile SAT score.
Relax. With your 5’s on your AP exams, they know that your being first in your class is not because you come possibly from a small school of cretins. You don’t need a confirmatory SAT. Those AP scores confirm that you’ve got the right stuff. If your essays and extracurriculars are as good as your class rank and AP scores, you will probably get into Wellesley, and you have a good chance at even more competitive schools.
