My recent SAT scores came back today and I got a 1250 (which is well below the average for GW). My previous scores were 1110, so I am proud I improved a considerable deal. However, I heard that if your scores are not in the 75th percentile then don’t submit them. My ACT scores was a 27, which is around the same range of the SAT. I really want to become a full-fledged GW Colonial, so will submitting my scores hurt or help my chances?
In regards to my credentials, I am in the top 8% of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I would have been higher if it weren’t for my chronic illness (an extreme case of chronic migraines to be exact) in my sophomore year. In efforts to reduce the stress of constant make-up work, the rigor of my course load suffered. I can say that I am now back to a full honors and AP schedule, with the addition of dual enrollment. My EC includes: marching band, jazz band, National Honor Society, Mock Trial, and DECA.
I am applying ED1 for Elliott majoring in IA and Conflict Resolution. Can someone please let me know whether or not to submit my scores and my chances of getting in? And how is the financial aid affected by ED? I did the NPC with my parents and received a relatively generous package, will ED change that?
If you’re not penalized at all for applying test-optional like schools say (I’m still not certain I believe this) then I agree with @JPGator98 in that you shouldn’t send your scores.
Sorry, I might have been unclear. GW and other universities say that they don’t penalize students for applying test-optional. I was only trying to state that it’s a very new policy and I don’t know how it works entirely. Also, I’m suspicious that there’s no penalty at all in applying test-optional.
@NHuffer So if I already had them submitted through collegeboard but want to cancel them, what should I do? Do I mail admissions or put applying test optional on the common app? I’m not sure if they disregard the scores presubmitted without a formal letter. Does that make sense? Sorry I’m very anxious lol
@NHuffer do you recommend I take the SAT a third time and just have my scores sent? I apologize for the bombardment of questions lol. You just seem to have a deep comprehension of how GW works behind the scenes.
@abell313 Well, I’m not sure if it’s possible. Also, after some quick online searches, I could only find a way to cancel scores being sent, but it had to be done the Wednesday after taking the test.
As far as retaking, I don’t think it will matter much at this point. According to online sources, it take about 3 weeks to get scores. GW will make a decision by mid-December, so unless you can take an exam this week, I really don’t see them getting it in time. I’m sure you’re anxious- try not to be. What’s done is done and there’s nothing else you can do about it. Remember that GW makes decisions on the “whole person” and not just one thing like test scores. As long as your GW essay was strong, the rest of your application should paint an accurate picture of you.
