My recent SAT scores came back today and I got a 1250 (which is well below the average for GW). My previous scores were 1110, so I am proud I improved a considerable deal. However, I heard that if your scores are not in the 75th percentile then don’t submit them. My ACT scores was a 27, which is around the same range of the SAT. I really want to become a full-fledged GW Colonial, so will submitting my scores hurt or help my chances?
In regards to my credentials, I am in the top 8% of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I would have been higher if it weren’t for my chronic illness (an extreme case of chronic migraines to be exact) in my sophomore year. In efforts to reduce the stress of constant make-up work, the rigor of my course load suffered. I can say that I am now back to a full honors and AP schedule, with the addition of dual enrollment. My EC includes: marching band, jazz band, National Honor Society, Mock Trial, and DECA.
I am applying ED1 for Elliott majoring in IA and Conflict Resolution. Can someone please let me know whether or not to submit my scores and my chances of getting in? And how is the financial aid affected by ED? I did the NPC with my parents and received a relatively generous package, will ED change that?
ACT scores were* not was sorry lol. And I retook them last week and currently awaiting results.
Do not send if they are below avg. That will not enhance your application. Good luck
I probably wouldn’t include them unless you get much higher scores
I understand your dilemma. I think you should just write great essays and you should be able to get away with not submitting scores.
I just checked GW’s score ranges, and the 25th percentile to 75th percentile range is 27 to 31. Reporting a 27 should not disqualify a person, since it’s in the normal range for existing students, but it does not help either, since it’s on the low end. I wouldn’t report it.
I understand exactly the position you’re in - I have a chronic illness as well that impacted my course rigor and my act scores. If you don’t need to report it, I wouldn’t do so. I think at this point it would hinder your application rather than help it, so focus on using either your personal essay or the additional information section to explain your extenuating circumstances about your course rigor and the progress you’ve made. A comeback story is always a pleaser. Best of luck!
I would recommend not reporting them, since they probably will only hurt you. I would definitely recommend addressing somewhere in your application about your chronic migraine condition so they have that info and don’t count it against you. Chance me back?
