I have narrowed my college search down and I now know what schools I plan on applying to. My first choice, if accepted, is a test optional school. My best scores, out of all the standardized tests I have taken, was a 29 on the ACT. The AVERAGE ACT score ranges from 30-34. Again this is the average score. So my question is, with a score of 29, should I submit my test score? I have a fairly strong resume (Eagle Scout, tons of community service, strong course selection, etc.) so
A 29 is really bad
A 29 composite score puts him in the 93rd percentile, a far cry from anywhere near “bad.” To OP, yes submit it, because colleges want to see that you have put forth the effort of testing.
Find the common data set for the school (collegedata.com will have it) and see if 29 falls above the 25th percentile. Also, make sure the school “superscores” since if sounds like your 29 is not one sitting. Finally, see if you can find what percentage of admits (not applicants) who did not provide standardized test scores. Those answers should help clarify your decision.
Thank you.
