Should I switch to Biomedical Engineering?

Hey guys. I'm currently majoring in Math & Science at a community college. I just finished my first year and I've taken Calc 1, Calc 2, General Bio 1 & 2, and the required englishes (plus a couple psychology courses). I was wondering if I could transfer over smoothly to get a degree in biomedical engineering (bachelor's degree). I would probably go on to get a masters so I could potentially teach later on. Tell me what you guys think.

As a transfer student, most schools will want you to finish the core 6 or 7 classes, before transferring. These include the calc series (usually calc 1, 2 and 3), Chem 1 w/lab, Physics 1 and 2 (with lab) and differential equations. Check for the requirements at your targeted school(s). You should be able to complete these classes in a year.

Employment Biomedical engineering field typically requires a Masters degree, so if you plan on getting your BS in Biomedical, you should plan on getting your masters. For this reason, some folks recommend getting a BS in some other engineering field (ME, EE, etc) and then a masters in Biomedical. It gives you the option, after you get your BS, to not have to pursue a masters but to go get a job. Something to think about. Search this forum and you’ll find lots of advise on Biomedical.

Good Luck!
