Should I take 5 APs next year (as a Junior)

Hi CCers, I am currently a High School Sophomore, I have pretty decent grades. UW 3.65 and W 4.15 including freshman year. Next year I plan on taking five APs opposed to the four I'm taking now. I would like advice and suggestions regarding my schedule:

AP English Lang
AP Calc BC
AP Chem
AP Macroeconomics
AP US History
Spanish III (Reg)

My high school is decently competitive in the suburbs of Seattle, private high school. I sort of struggled with Honors Chemistry (Got a B) regardless, my teacher thinks I'm a lazy genius.

Lang - Hard
Calc -Depends, but most people find it easier than Precalc
Chem - Depends on the school
Macro - easy
APUSH - not bad, lots to memorize

I can’t tell you what’s best for you, so I tried to break down the classes a bit for you

I would take the optimal combo of classes where it’s realistic for you to get near straight A’s and study for SAT/ACT.

That standardized test score will matter more than the exact number of APs you are taking, so allocate your time and efforts accordingly.

Depends on the teachers to be honest.

I did 6 and it can be painful [sophomore] to do them, but sometimes it is the easiest thing ever.

You can’t procrastinate.

Study for the APs in February. That way you’ll procrastinate till April, but you’ll at least get it done, rather than comment on CC threads the night before AP Euro because you think people care about your opinions and research that really anybody with thousands of hours of freet ime could do, but you know they don’t since you’re the only one who actually spams CC threads…where was I?

Enjoy the topics and have a lot of background information

Start studying over the summer!

How well did you do on the PSAT? Do you think you will do very well on the SAT/ACT (you might if you’re automatically a great test taker)

@"Johnny H"‌

Not all sophomores take the PSAT, and the PSAT isn’t too good at predicting SAT scores. I got a 180 on the PSAT due to some crazy stuff, and then a 2130 on a practice SAT test, i.e a released one, both administered in a professional setting, three days apart.

My point was that if he/she destroyed the psat or practice tests, then the main factor in the college application is taken care of. I also scored much higher on the SAT than the PSAT. This kid probably is worrying about 2250+ scores and aiming for top schools.

Thanks guys, I plan on studying for the SAT a TON over this summer then taking it in September/October so taking that as a factor as well. I got a 1870 on my first Mock SAT so a lot of studying to do!

See if you are better suited for the ACT (do a practice test) and allocate your efforts to the one you prefer. Your standardized test score is 50x more important for college admissions than your AP coursework. You have till October of your senior year to take them, so dont rush it if you are not confident.
