This is my proposed schedule or 11th grade (next year):

AP Economics

AP US History

AP Language and Comp.

AP Statistics

Honors Chem

Honors Physics

Honors Pre-Calculus

ELECTIVE

Now, I have never taken any AP's before, so I know that this schedule should be tough. And judging from the comments of current takers of these classes, I will have around 2-5 hours of HW every night, but I'm willing to take this challenge.

However, I feel a study block should be necessary as it would help me get some work done in school.

Yet I do not have all my required art credits! To graduate, I need to take 3 semesters of art classes, which I HATE:

So here are my 3 options:

Take study block whole junior year and take 3 Art classes Senior year

Take study block half semester, and 1 Art class, half semester, leaving 2 Art classes for senior year

Drop and full-year AP, most likely AP Stat, and complete 2 Art classes, leaving 1 Art credit for next year.

Do not take Study Hall at all

Personally I would take option 1 or option 2, option 2 would help you get adjusted until you feel like you can handle the work, while option 1 would really reduce your stress.

I think you should take option 1, 2, or 3 because study hall will help with all the AP homework you’ll have–especially because you’ve never taken an AP before. You might crumble under a lot of pressure if you don’t take study hall, even if you only take it for half a semester.

I would do a semester of art and a semester of study hall. An art class shouldn’t add too much to your workload, and it should also help make your senior schedule less painful, as you won’t have more than 1 art class at a time. But I wouldn’t recommend skipping study hall altogether, you have a pretty tough schedule so a study hall will help you adjust to it if you have it first semester or give you extra time to study for the exams if you have it second semester. So I personally would go with option #2

Do you think it would be wise to drop APUSH and take AP Biology instead? I have heard AP Biology looks MUCH MUCH more rigorous!

Also, most smart ppl (the upper 10%) of my grade will be taking 2 Science AP’s by the time they graduate so I thought only to improve my chances, I should follow suit and ALSO taking 2 APs, with AP Bio in junior year.

However, I have heard AP Bio is the toughest AP at my school, 1:30 hrs of HW per night on average!

As a senior in AP Bio, I would say it depends upon your extracurricular activities. Personally, I wish I had not taken that class because with college apps, working, clubs, and family responsibilities, that class has become a real burden on me. If you REALLY want to take it, I would say take it junior year when you’ll feel like doing that kind of work. That being said, I would have a study hall, so option two wold be the best. Good luck!

@texanhowler In 11th grade I only took one (AP Lang) because it was the only one I was eligible to take (my school only offers six each year, which sometimes change). This year I have four (Lit, Bio, Calc AB, and Psych) plus honors Spanish IV since we don’t have AP Spanish. This year I have a lot on my plate (especially due to family issues and responsibilities & college apps), though, so I would have rather not taken Bio in hindsight. This is my school’s first year offering it though, so I had no idea what the workload would be like.
