Hi everyone!
As a sophomore, should I take AP Chemistry and Pre-AP Physics at the same time, whilst also taking AP Language and Composition (this I will be taking for sure), Pre-AP Precalculus/Trig, Spanish III, and some humanities course (these are the academic courses only)? I took Pre-AP Chemistry and biology as a freshman. I’m not quite sure what to do; what would be too much, and what would be too little? By senior year, I plan on taking chemistry, AP Chemistry, physics, biology, AP Biology, and possibly an additional Research Biology class (in terms of science classes). I want to place a strong emphasis on the sciences, as that is what I am interested in.
Also, how difficult is AP Chemistry compared to Pre-AP Chemistry? Would it be manageable taking Physics and AP chemistry simultaneously?
Thank you!
Taking two science classes is always a lot of work in my opinion, if I were in your position, I would take Pre-AP Physics now, and then take AP Chemistry next year.
I am taking both AP Chemistry and AP Physics right now, it is very rigorous and stressful, but it is manageable.
I took Pre-AP Chemistry last year in my sophomore year and I felt like it was a breeze, but I am currently taking AP Chem right now, and it is on a completely different level, things will get very complex.
Just be sure that you manage yourself and your work, it is really easy to let your stress get the best of you.
Thank you for your advice! @raddude92
Depends. I took AP Chem last year along with AP Physics 1 and it was very easily manageable. However my teachers were easy on homework, and mainly focused on teaching us in class. Ended up with an A in both classes in both semesters, along with fives on both tests.
Thanks for your input, everyone! One other concern about taking AP Chem and Physics at the same time in 10th grade is that I am worried I will forget a lot of the information by university. I read somewhere that it is best not to take too many science courses early on if you plan on majoring in the sciences because it is quite possible to forget a lot of material in 2 years. Does anyone here agree with this? Is it best to spread out the classes? (For example, take AP Physics between Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry)
