Hi, I'm a sophomore and go to a top ranking high school in California.

I have an A in every single class that I'm taking this year except Team Sports (PE not on GPA). I'm only taking College Prep classes though.

I wanted to know if I should take any AP's next year or honors. These are the courses that I'm considering for next year.

Algebra II Honors
English III Honors
ASL II CP
Psychology AP
Chemistry Honors
US History AP

Is this load to much, especially on someone who has never taken an honors/AP class before? Should I cut down on a few?

If I am to take English III honors I know I would have a hard time since I don't favor all the work associated with the class, but my teacher really encourages me to take the class. Same with Chemistry, I'm phenomenal with science but really dislike Chemistry.

By the way, I want to take really hard classes in order to get into UCLA, UCB, UCSB, or USC. Since I know that CP classes aren't enough.

**I've also heard that Psychology AP is the easiest AP at my school and that US history AP was easier than CP :P (Second one probably false)

The question is can you really handle it? I understand that you want to challenge yourself to improve your chance of getting accepted, but I know plenty of people who take so much APs when they’re not ready that they drop out in the middle of the course or get horrible grades… In your case, you’re going from no APs to a schedule with most if not all honors and APs… Ask yourself if you’re really motivated and can actually perform well

You should take them. AP’s are cool… I didn’t have the opportunity in Canada (I had to self teach). Basically AP’s are just first year university classes.

That looks like a fairly standard schedule for someone with hopes of getting into UCLA or Berkeley. APUSH is very hard work, but it’s nothing compared to most classes at Berkeley. So step up your game!

Take as many as you can handle, especially Junior year!! I’m applying to college this year as a senior and my single BIGGEST regret is not having taken more AP classes last year. It might be really hard in the short term, but you will thank yourself later!

I take similar classes and although it’s a lot of work, I was able to get through it. As a senior, all my applications asked what classes I’m taking and they’re looking to see that us students challenged ourselves throughout high school. If you can handle it, then you should do it!
