Should I take AP Lit or ENG 100?

I’m a rising senior who is going to take either one of these classes. I’m too sure which class is better, but I believe
ENG 100 gives guaranteed college credit. Still, I took AP Lang, which is (from what I’m told) pretty similar/the equivalent of ENG 100. Since I already took AP Lang, I’m not too sure if taking ENG 100 would be a redundant and a waste of time.

At what school does English 100 guarantee you college credit? Not all universities will accept dual credit classes.

I would say to take AP Lit.

I agree.

ENG 100 might give “guaranteed credit” at your in-state public, but you are less likely to get credit at an OOS public, and will almost assuredly get no credit at a top private college/university.

How colleges consider AP English language, AP English literature, and whatever your local college’s ENG 100 for transfer subject credit varies by college. Unless you know what colleges you will apply to and look up their AP and transfer credit listings, you will not know until later which one is more valuable in terms of transfer subject credit.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’m leaning more towards ap lit, but my counselor prefers ENG 100 since the ap lit teacher is apparently bad. Could I possibly study on my own for ap lit or would it be too difficult? Practicing for the multiple choice doesn’t seem too bad, but the frq’s are sort of a problem (due to the issue of grading).

It really depends. If you read a lot of quality literature on your own and if your past/future teachers have taught you literary analysis and effective essay writing and you’ve covered a range of prose and poetry, you could probably be fine with supplementing your past reading with some works from the AP Lit reading list.

Well to be honest, I’ve only read a few good book and I’m not really much of a reader. Most of my English teachers were not very high quality at all, though my AP English teacher last year did at least help me write better frqs, specfically rhetorical analysis essays.
I also want to make it clear that what I mean by studying on my own is to take the ap lit class but study on my own for things he won’t cover (such as say multiple choice).
