So every year, my high school screws up my schedule in some way or another. This year, being a senior, they didn’t put me in a third period class altogether, nor did they give me AP Studio Art. Now I have to decide whether I want option #1 or option #2 for a schedule:
Option #1
AP Lit.
AP Stats
Teacher’s Aid
AP US Gov.
High School Newspaper
Option #2
AP Lit.
AP Studio Art
AP US Gov.
Regular Stats
High School Newspaper
I really want to have 4 years of art because I love art and it looks really good on apps, but I also think that if I take regular stats I’ll get bored and avoid doing work. Is it worth it to drop AP Stats for AP Studio Art, or should I keep it as it is? (I hope to make a career out of being an editor, if that makes any difference.) So basically which schedule looks better to colleges/ does it even matter if it’s my senior year anyway?
Side note: I also really love all the people in that class, however I’m trying not to make that a big part of my decision.
Your senior schedule does matter, as colleges generally want to make sure that you didn’t slack off. I’m no expert, but I’m guessing that the second schedule would be better. Having a teacher’s aid period probably isn’t as rigorous as having a regular math class, plus an AP.
That being said, I don’t think there’s a major, dealbreaker difference in the two. So I would go with what you want the most – and it sounds like that would be art.
Take AP Studio Art because you love art. It will make you happy. And this year will be plenty stressful so you need your happy.
Don’t worry about regular stats being boring. If you’ve never taken stats before, it will be new to you and that alone should keep you fairly well entertained.
Agreed. Even if I did not read the backstory, I would still have chosen #2. A class, IMO, will be perceived better than teacher’s aide.
However, since I did read the backstory, I would still go with #2. You love art, so take art. FWIW, if you are bored in regular stats, you’d probably be bored in AP Stats as well.
