Should I take both the SAT and the ACT?

I’m a current sophomore and I’m beginning to start either my SAT/ACT prep soon. I’m in Geometry, but I’m been self-teaching Algebra 2 to myself so I can understand the math content of the SAT and the ACT better. Do you guys think that taking both the SAT and ACT is a waste of time?

You can certainly take both to see which score is better. Sending both, IMO, is a waste of time and money as they will consider the better score. There are no brownie points to be had by sending both. As to which to send, the question is really moot until you have actual scores.

In the meantime, you could do practice tests on both to help decide which to take first. If you score high enough on one, then there is really no point to take the other.

Practice test both and you will favored one test.

Using PSAT Scores to Compare SAT and ACT By Art Sawyer

If you score exceptionally well on both (>1550, 35-36), it might be worth submitting both - a lot of colleges like to get as much information as they can, and if you are great at both tests, it shows that you’re capable of success in several different testing environments. Actually, I read an article the other day that a high percentage of admitted Harvard applicants submitted both scores.

However, if you see a big difference between both of your scores, don’t bother sending the worse one.

I’m not an expert - just someone in your position (taking Algebra 2 though, so PM me if you ever need help!) so don’t take everything I’m saying to be 100% true, but I am taking both because it is the best choice for me personally. Everyone is different though. good luck!!
