So my schedule for my first quarter at UC Davis is CHE 2A, Greek, and Classics 30. I never had thought of taking Greek, I wanted to take either French or Latin, but those classes are full. Classics was not on my mind either. Basically the only class I was put in that I actually want is CHE and I couldn’t take any other classes I wanted because CHE conflicts with times of those other classes. I am currently waiting until 2nd pass to drop Greek and hopefully replace it with a class that actually interests me and fits into my schedule if I still take CHE. However, I was wondering if it would be okay if I just dropped CHE and postponed it until next quarter and put classes I want on my schedule. What do you guys think? I am a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, but I’m also interested in Computer Science or Plant Biology.

Hi there, I’m also currently a BioSci major and I would suggest keeping Chem2a

For our majors, chem is a prereq for ochem, and ochem a prereq for upper div bio. Therefore being behind a quarter in chem is not ideal (trust me, I didn’t get chem2a last fall and although im only a sophmore, i see lots of minor complications already). If you have a prereq class for your major, I do not suggest dropping it unless you can guarantee another spot in a different professor’s class.

Remember what they told you at orientation: you may not get the classes you want, but you’ll get the ones you need (they leave out the part where you can get screwed and get stuff you dont want or need).

If the other classes you want to take don’t matter for your major, just enjoy the ones you have now and remember you’ll have lots of opportunities in the coming quarters/years to take them! Classics and Greek doesn’t sound bad to me at all.

Thanks, your response was quite helpful. I am going to keep CHE 2A and hopefully find another class to replace Greek.
