should I take chem test?

In college I am hoping to pursue a field like chemE, but my high school does not offer advanced chemistry courses. (I did take basic chem last year but I didnt learn anything and it isnt near SAT II level) Netx year I am doing chemistry at a local university, but all of my learning will be done too late to take the chemistry SAT II. Others I know told me it would be stupid and look terrible for colleges for me to not take this considering my interests, but I am not confident that I could successfully teach myself everything I need to know to take the test and receive a great score (like I am taking AP Physics now and it would be difficult to teach myself that).

I am , for certain, taking physics and math II, but if I dont take chem I will be taking US History, something I am more confident about but it is less relevant to my interests and those others have told me it would look just plain dumb to have a score for it instead of chem.

So, what do you think I should do? teach myself everything I need to know for chem or just take history (note: I am applying to top colleges, Ivies and the like)

Thanks in advance

I say u.s. history because of the fact you really don't know much chem and your A LOT more confident in history.

screw "the people you know." They have a point, but if you're not prepared, you will suck at it. Just take the test after the class is over, even if it doesnt count. PLUS: i believe on the college application you can say that youre going to take the SAT bio test in your senior year, and the adcoms will believe you.

I took the SAT II Chem after taking honors chem (not AP), used some prep books, and I got a 760. But you say your basic chem course wasn't very good, so you might be better off sticking with US history. It really doesn't matter which ones you take.
