To be prepared for the Chemistry SAT II, should a student have had AP Chemistry first? In our school, many kids take Chemistry I as a sophomore or junior, but don't get to Chemistry II AP until their Senior year, which makes it a bit too late for the SAT II's.

I would definately NOT take the SAT subject test in chemistry until a year of AP chem has been taken...unless you don't mind a very low score wait till you take AP

i didn't take the AP chem, just took an honors course in chemistry my soph. year and i took the test after my junior year... scored a 660, and i took it again, and i'm waiting for those scores... the second time around, i studied.

it's very do-able without ap chem, and if you're in the middle of the course, look over stuff you haven't learned about yet, because most of the concepts tested are from chem I. you should score 700+ easily if you like chemistry a lot

SAT II Chemistry is designed to be taken after a one-year high school course in Chemistry.

A little extra review and study doesn't hurt either.

^ yep. APs could help your score, but honors classes can definitely be sufficient for a good score

I took the test after a regular chem class and got a 730. Our class covered all the topics tested on the SAT II, just not as extensively perhaps. Some people say their class is nowhere near the SAT II level, so take a practice test and see how you feel about it.
I also studied for a month on my own, quite intensively I might add.

My school does not have AP Chem either until Senior year..Our honors class for Chem I is nothing more than a review for our State sponsered test (called Standard of Learning tests). So really, I'm learning nothing except balancing equations, naming equations, and converting different measurements. Furthermore, I took the sample questions from the CollegeBoard website and scored right on less than half.

The Biology test appeared easy from the sample questions....Is it?

i took regular chem in soph year and took the test twice, first time, without studying, got 730 though, second time got 790 on the test in nov 05 as a jenior, took me 2 days to do those practise problems and review the materials in the week before the test.

and i found only a little potion of test is not covered by my class, which are naming organic compound and the electric cells

Honors can actually cover it, if your school is good. My friend took it when he was in Chemistry honors and got 790. I took it after Chemistry AP and got 780. Basically, it just depends on how much you study by yourself.
