I am entering my third semester of community college (Am taking calc 1/2 these two summer sessions) and I am stuck with taking only 3 classes in the fall. This is only 9 credits, there is not another class I can take that I willingly know will transfer/count towards Computer Science for NJIT/Rutgers. Should I stick with 3 classes this Fall semester or just stick in a random class or something? For example, CSC100 does not transfer to NJIT but CSC101 does. So I am taking CSC100 in the fall so that I can take CSC101 in the Spring. Is this a waste? I should have taken CSC100 sooner but I was planning to transfer to NJIT this fall but I was not accepted. So now I have this dilemma to just go with 9 credits in the fall (Idk this seems bad?) or take a random class that MIGHT or will transfer but will not count towards the computer science degree.
Do you need more credits in order to qualify for financial aid? If so, then by all means take another course that may or may not transfer. Otherwise, I would suggest just concentrating on the 3 classes you have for Fall Semester. There is nothing wrong with taking a little more time toward your degree, but doing better in the courses that you take because you were able to put more time into them.
If you need to, or feel that you want to, take more courses, there are other options than Computer Science courses that will have much better odds of transferring. In order to get a Bachelor’s degree, you are going to need a certain number of Humanities and Social Sciences courses, and I am sure that your CC offers some of them.
@ALF Thanks for the response. I am not getting any financial aid so no I do not need to take more, just seems strange only taking 3 credits. I already have the required humanities and social sciences from the last two semesters, at least enough for Rutgers/NJIT as those are the two main colleges I have a great chance of transferring into. What ive been doing is looking at their course curriculum (both ruters and njit) and taking equivalent and transferable classes here at the community college I am at. There really is nothing else for me atm, it is higher level.
Thanks again!
