Should I take more than 12 credits?

English: 3 credit
Calculus 1: 5 credit
Reading: 3 credit
Biology: 4 credit

Should I take all 4 of them? Because english, calculus 1 and biology is already 12 credit hours. I plan to also take reading. BUt that will be more than 12 credits. I afraid I won't able to handle it.

It really depends on you. I took 21 credits this last semester and managed to hang on to my 4.0. I’m taking 21 credits again next semester too.

This last semester I had General Physics I, Calculus I, General Chemistry I, Beginning Spanish I, and Intro to Anthropology. Physics and chemistry both had lab sections, and I did honors projects for both physics and calculus.

Next semester I’m taking University Physics I, Calculus II, General Chemistry II, Beginning Spanish II, and General Cultural Anthropology for a total of 21 credits again. I’ll also be doing honors projects for physics and calculus again, and possible one for chemistry as well.

It all depends on you though. Some people have the time and the motivation to dedicate themselves to that many credit hours, others don’t. I definitely didn’t have much of a social life this last semester. I spent a lot of time doing problem sets and studying. I had at least 1 or 2 exams almost every week.

12 credit hours is below average.

12 credits is technically full time and so should be good for financial aid purposes, but most people take 16 with another majority doing around 18.

How many credits did you have this semester and how did you handle it? I had 12 my first semester of college and kicked myself for it. It wasn’t enough and I was really bored. I’ve taken 16 credits (4 classes at 4 credits each) since and that seems to be a good fit me for me. Next fall I can either do 14 or 18 depending on if I want to get a class out the way, and I’m seriously leaning towards 18 (5 classes with one of them being a 2-credit course that meets for the last 8 weeks of the term).

I’d rather be busy than bored, and I’d rather work hard now and leave myself some extra room senior year when I’ll be doing my capstone experiences.

That’s the way I look at it, so I’d go ahead and take them all if I were were you. You never want to fall behind because time is precious.
