Should i take organic chemistry at Community college

Hey I’m going to be a senior next year and I took AP chem this year. I’m fairly positive I will get a 5 on the exam because I’ve taken several practice tests and have done well. I really like chemistry and would the transition from ap chem to orgo be too much?

Have you exhausted the science options at your own school? High-level bio and physics and whatnot?

Yes ap bio and physics

No. I have not personally taken Organic Chemistry, so I can only tell you what the consensus appears to be from this website.

Organic Chem is a ridiculously tough class that AP Chemistry does not even begin to lead you towards understanding. AP Chemistry is a tough class for high school, but it just does not cover general chemistry well enough to take you straight to organic. Organic is a notorious weed out class that is made to push premeds to the limit and then some. Some premeds go so far as to switch their major to makeup for the terrible grades they get from Organic and taking it over and over again. It is not a fun class, and is best taken when you have experienced “true” college chemistry.

Mehhhh. Depends on the person. I like it better than my two ChemE classes, and I don’t know what community college is trying to weed out its students.

The main reason why I would like to take it my senior year is because the high school that i don’t feel like I’m learning anything at my high school. I’m not interested in impressing anyone but I’m just trying to learn more about chemistry just because I find it so interesting. If I take this class and don’t do well, would it affect my GPA when I graduate and go to college?

You’ll have to send the grade on a transcript to every single school at which you apply, but they’re unlikely to add it into your college GPA. It wasn’t taken at their institution.

Might affect your HS GPA though. Ask your school if you don’t know what their policies are.
