Right now, as I’m sure tons of juniors are also doing, I’m deciding on my classes for senior year. Right now, my schedule is very vigorous and I’m starting to doubt what I picked. Right now I have
College English (advanced “honors” type of class)
Pre-calc
Physics
AP Bio (online)
Spanish 3
AP Comparative Gov.
Now, I know I might be able to handle it, but I also know I NEED to focus on college applications, essays, scholarships and all of that, but with this schedule I know it’ll be extremely difficult to balance all of it. The one class I’m not feeling the most is physics. None of it seems that interesting to me and the people I know that took it this year says that it is terrible, the teacher doesn’t do anything to help you, and the only thing you do is book work the entire time. They also said just balancing that with Pre-calc is terrible as well, so I know that throwing in AP Bio and AP Comp. Gov. will make it even harder. However, I know that physics look good on applications because it’s part of the three main sciences colleges look for, and I’m definitely planning on applying to selective schools. Please help me out!
You could look up some of the schools you are interested in and see how many sciences (and lab sciences) they recommend. Also what are you thinking of studying? IMO most STEM majors especially at selective schools, will want to see Physics. If you are looking at humanities, there could be more leeway if you’ve covered the recommended sciences.
How selective are you talking? Lab sciences in Chem, Physics, and Bio would definitely be favorable in most schools that emphasize education surrounding those (STEM).
That sucks. Although you can self-study AP Physics 1 with relative ease with online resources, I do understand that it may get difficult if the teacher is no good. I could go off all day about what I did and how easy/hard it was, but I understand that we all go to different schools and study in different environments. You’ll have to take heed from your peers and contrast the pros and cons and your abilities.
Still, my original suggestion stands; I’d go for it if you are trying to get into some place competitive. Might we ask what major/interests you are going for?
@MON824 @jcmom716 I’m interested in neuroscience/psychology and maybe pre-med, so I know physics would be the obvious route to take. But that is only an idea for now. I’m truly interested in the humanities and find myself excelling in those types of subjects and the thought of suffering through physics with little help and not really learning anything doesn’t sound very appealing. We also have Anatomy and Physiology, but I know the high school version of the class, from what I’ve heard, does little in comparison to a college level course.
