Hi, I came to US in freshman year, and started taking Spanish from soph year..
I just received registration packet for senior year, and deciding whether to take Span 3 or not.
I live in California, and UC requires 2 foreign languages and 3 for recommendation..
Some of my friends tell me to take it since many colleges recommend 3 or more years..
However, I got SAT Korean 800 (my first language) SAT chem 770 SAT math 2c 800 and 5 AP classes (mostly math and science) to show I'm competitive.
I seriously hate Spanish, and I would rather take Computer Science AP or AP Euro to replace it.
Does it seem ok? Or should I stay with my friends' recommendations on taking Spanish... My goal is going to UC or Ivy....

Selective colleges are looking for you to have proficiency at some minimal level in a language. Often the thinking is that 4 years of study would get you there. Those four years can be done in many ways. Some students are proficient when they enter high school – because they were in an immersion program. They then place into the highest level offered of the language in high school, or perhaps place above that level. Some students start fresh, at the introductory level as freshmen. And others in between.

You are already proficient in Korean. So you already meet the requirements/recommendations of most selective schools. I encourage you to confirm that by picking two or three colleges that interest you, and checking out their admission requirements/recommendations
