I have taken the SAT 3 times to get a final combined score of 1720. I want atleast an 1800-1900 on the SAT, but after 3 times I dont think its possible anymore. Should I take the ACT? Or give the SAT one more try?

It all really depends how your brain works, some people are just wired differently so they do better on the ACT or others the SAT. It won’t hurt to try the ACT…

No reason not to at least attempt it. Perhaps you’ll find it is more of your style.

Thanks Very Much ^

OP - are you a junior? What classes are you in?

I would definitely suggest trying the ACT.

Junior, mostly honors and AP classes. I am only worried about math and science portions of the exam, science seems difficult.

There is a lot of advice on here about how to approach the science. It’s not about particularly having a science background, it’s more about the graphs.

I was wondering more particularly what level math you are in. The ACT tests through pre-calc/trig. You may just need to go back and review various algebra and geometry formulas and learn how to recognize what you need to do when you encounter a particular style of question.

I’m currently in Pre-Cal, and I’ve looked over the Math and its very similar to what I am learning currently.

DEFINITELY try it. My first SAT, I got 1840. I studied very hard and got a 2140 the second time, which I was totally content with. I didn’t want to take the act after I got that score, but I had already signed up so I just went for it. I ended up getting a 32 without studying, which I was extremely excited with. I decided to study really hard for the act, like I had done for the sat, and ended up getting a 33 my second time. SO moral of the story, you never know!!! Just try it!
- 2 TIPS
- Get professional tutoring (I used “Growing Stars”—it’s super cheap!)
- For the ACT, you have to go muuuch quicker than on the sat. Speed is key! Good luck Peter!

Very Helpful and Inspiring Post, thanks very much Dougbrewman!

I would give it a try. As dougbrewman said, timing is key. Practice with real ACT tests and time yourself as you do.
Good luck!

I will take it in April, is from now to April enough studying for a 30? With absolutely no experience or knowledge?

I would recommend trying ACT. Statistics showed there is little improvement in SAT score after the second or third attempt. Unless you have a reason to believe you can do better in the next attempt (e.g. not thoroughly prepared previously).
