Should I take the AP and/or SAT II Chemistry test?

My AP Chem class is first semester and is only a semester long thanks to the geniuses in my counselor's office. So, I'm going to have to constantly remind myself of Chem throughout the 2nd semester of school. While that doesn't sound to hard, it's still going to be a pain, so I was wondering if I should take the SATII test right after I finish the class. The only reason I would be taking the test is to get credit at Georgia Tech. You get credit if you make a 5 on the AP exam, or at least a 720 on the SATII test. So should I just take the SATII test to see how I do to see if I even need the AP exam? And if I should take the SATII, should I just use the regular AP materials/study guides that I would normally use for the AP exam?

Good idea. I would take the SAT II right after you finish the class, and then see if you need the AP test. If they are both weighted equally in terms of obtaining credit, i would go for the SAT II.

I took SAT 2 Chem right before I took the AP exam. It was basically a free 750+ if you took AP chem and don't make silly errors. So yeah, take the SAT 2 right after your AP class and you can do very well on it. And SAT 2 is much cheaper than AP exam (unless your school pays for AP).

You can study SAT 2 with your AP material, but SAT 2 is much easier and cover less stuff than AP. If you use AP study guides, you will overly prepare yourself. The tests are kind of different, too. SAT 2 test questions require less math. oh, and make sure you practice on the True/False/CE questions on SAT 2 a little bit, they are really tricky.

I really appreciate your response Juggler! Do happen to know where I can get practice SATII tests so I can get used to the format of the test? I know collegeboard has like 15 or so questions on their sample test, but I was wondering if I could find a full pracitce test. Thanks!

You can get practice tests from prep books. Check out your local library if you don't want to spend money. (That's what I did :))

I used practice tests from the Kaplan book. They were great but harder than the real SAT 2. I scored 650 and 750 on Kaplan tests, 800 on the real one. I personally think the 15 questions on College Board is much harder than their real SAT 2 test. So if you can do those 15 questions without any problem, you will rock the test.
