I’m a sophomore in a public high school in New York. We take global history through freshmen and sophomore year, and the course ends with a regents in 10th grade. The class is meant to prepare students for the reagents, but teachers include some extra AP information that we are not tested on.
I was considering taking the AP and/or SAT II exam on the subject at the end of the year, because I really enjoy learning about history, and I feel that is an opportunity to stand out in terms of the college application process in comparison to other kids in my school who won’t take the tests. I understand that I will have to do a lot of studying on my own, but I spoke to my teacher and he said that since the AP changed, it may be hard to prepare for it. He said some of the vocabulary and phrasing of material on the AP is a lot different than what we are used to and may be a difficult to get used to. He did not know about the SAT II.
I’m probably going to later speak to my guidance counselor and freshmen social studies teacher to get other opinions, but in the meantime I might take a look at SAT II and AP practice questions for the material we covered last year to see what my current teacher meant.
Sorry for the long post for something so simple, but I just want to conclude by saying that I’m not sure if its worth it to take the tests if I get low scores (below 700 or below 4). Do you think I should study on my own for one or both of the tests, despite not taking the AP course?
