Should I take the SAT again (this time the new one)?

Hi, I am a junior and plan to apply to two schools: UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State College of Engineering. I live in-state.
Some background stats:
-9th out of 345 (but that should actually improve if I maintain A’s)
-4.0 GPA UW and 4.9W
-5 AP’s and plan to take 5 more

  • run track for indoor and outdoor season, hold a position in student council, started a club and participate in others.

I took the SAT as a sophomore in January and received a 700 CR, 710M, and 680W (2090). I took it again on Dec. 5 and just received my scores: 760CR, 710M, and 670W. I now have a 2150 SS or a 1470 for CR+M.

I would have liked to receive a stronger math and writing score, ideally getting about a 700 for W and 730 for M. They are now redesigning the test of course, and I don’t know if it’s worth taking again, especially if it is changing.

Are my scores good enough, or should I try my hand at the redesigned test to see which one I do better on? I am mostly worried about math for NC state and my writing for UNC.

Thanks!

Try the ACT instead. You can do the new SAT, but it is a big unknown at the moment. You will obviously need to find a few more colleges to apply to.

I just got my ACT MC scores back (no writing score yet). I got a 34 composite. 34M, 34E, 36R, 33S.

34 is more than enough for UNC and NC State. Great job!

Yes- the 34 is it! You are done!
