Should I take the SAT again?

Hi there!

As my first post, I would like to ask for some advice. I plan on applying early action to Princeton this fall and am wondering if my SAT score is adequate. I've taken the SAT twice so far, and the results are as follows:

800 reading, 790 math, 660 writing (10 essay)

780 reading 780 math, 720 writing (7 essay)

Thus, my composite score is 2310. The score itself is (hopefully?) acceptable. But since they take the highest of each category, the essay score they'd see is the result of my second attempt. A mere 7, I think, is rather low and I know I can do better (e.g. the 10 from the first attempt). Then again, I'm not sure how heavily they emphasize the specific essay score as opposed to the writing score in general.

And so, if you won't mind me repeating the title, should I take the SAT again?

I’m sure many people will disagree with me, but i think your score is fine.

a 2310 is probably the average score Princeton gets, perhaps even a 2350. My friend had a score of 1880 and he applied to Princeton. He got an interview, while students who had a 2360> got rejected. It was his ECs that got him that far.

Your score will definitely fit you into the “okay, we wont reject him yet” category, but your ECs will ultimately determine acceptance or not (plus rank/GPA obviously)

I don’t disagree with herozero. You don’t have to retake it.
