I am thinking of attending the CTY program at JHU this summer, and they require test scores. I was wondering, if I take the SAT as a freshman, will it affect my chances to colleges? When I apply to colleges, will I have to submit my scores I will have taken as a freshman?

Take them but only if you view it as practice and DON't stress about it.. No scores will count until you are a junior.

If you take the SAT, know that your freshman scores will be sent to colleges right along with any other SAT scores you attain during your high school years. You can't pick and choose which SAT scores will get sent like you can for the ACT.

We had the same situation with our 9th grade son. CTY suggested that he take the PSAT, not the SAT as SAT scores taken any time in HS will be forwarded to colleges. I believe it is too late to take the PSAT now. One likes to imagine that a college would discount a relatively low SAT score taken as a HS freshman

when you submit your scores the colleges will see all of them, but I really don't think that freshman scores should hurt your college chances much. only take if you really need them for the JHU program, and don't worry about them.

Why not take the ACT then.

its better not to take the SAT until you've had all the math (i.e. finished Algebra 2 and Geometry)

Right. Then never send it again unless it just happens to be great.
