should i take the TOEFL?

hey everyone :)

ive been in the u.s for about 8-9 years now. i was wondering if i should take the toefl. will it increase my chances of getting into colleges? ive taken the act 2ce, scoring 29 and 28 composite. my math score is pretty good, but my reading scores are awfully low.

ACT 1st try
eng - 29
math - 30
reading - 29
science 28

ACT 2nd try
eng - 29
math - 32
reading - 26
science - 24 D: dont know what happened there…

im looking at columbia, cornell, berkeley, uc la, and princeton so for most of those colleges 29 is a borderline cut for admissions…

If in the last 3 to 5 years you studied in a school which taught in English then no you don’t need to take the toefl, however i would advice on asking the international students counselor or if you have a GC/ citizenship then any of the regular counselor at the colleges you plan on applying just to be on the safe side.
