I've got admits from both UCSD CS n Georgia Tech CS. My concentration is AI or CV.

My father wants me to go to GATech because I have relatives there (plus, the fee is lower and it is higher ranked in the US News Rankings) and coz I have no immediate relatives in San Diego.

Me, I want to go to UCSD because of the weather and the Research, particularly of Dr. Kriegman which I really want to be a part of.

Can someone please guide me in a decision between the two with respect to.....Placements, Atmosphere (very important), Academics, Research etc...

I feel your pain, this is a gut-wrenching decision.

I would first off say don’t be too fixated on once researcher, but judge how you would “fit” with numerous groups at each school. Often times you don’t get your first choice, and its much safer to go to a school that has many profs that you can see yourself working with, rather than risk it with one group.

Secondly, no matter what anyone says, don’t discount the"atmosphere, vibes, etc" you get from each place. If UCSD makes you feel extremely comfortable compared to GT than I would go for it. Atmosphere can affect your performance at the school.

Having said that, if the atmosphere of GT is “half way decent”, I would head to GT as it is higher ranked.
