Should I tell them about my legacy?

My Dad, both Grandfathers, and my great-Grandfather all went to Harvard. I just finished sending in my common app/ supplement, but did not see any place to list this. I talked with someone from the admissions office, and they said I could send an email detailing all of this if I wanted. Would this help me, or give them a bad impression?

There is a space on the common app to mention where your father went to college (if you didn't see that, make sure you check again). As for grandfathers and great-grandfather, it probably wouldn't hurt to send an email.

Harvard prefers legacies. A lot. This is an unearned advantage you have over the masses. You'd be silly not to use this advantage, if you want to go to Harvard.

It wasn't on their supplement page unlike the other schools that I applied to (Stanford, Columbia, etc.)

In the Common App, there's a section for "additional info" that's just a blank box. Write a couple sentences about how the family tradition of going to Harvard inspired you blah blah blah etc etc. Basically, work it into a short (SHORT -- 3 sentence) mini-essay in the "additional info" section. It can't hurt.
