Currently, I am a sophomore...my credentials thus far are:
that I take all honors and AP US Hist 1
Nxt yr I am going to take:
AP Chem
AP Eng
US Hist 2 H >> I would take AP but it conflicts w/ AP Chem in my sched
French 4 H
Fine Art 2
As a freshman I had a 4.3 gpa
I take TKD, and Piano lessons, and I have a lot of volunteer and temple related stuff
I am in a couple of clubs at school incl. French Honors Society...Secretary of one club
Plan to take more APs as a Senior

Sure… why not? Be sure to have close to a 4.0 UW as possible and get high scores.

you’re on the right track. now all you have to do is keep up the GPA and get 2100+ scores.

You cant get much better than Ivy. Why not?

So, I am taking AP US Hist 1 this yr; however, I won’t be able to take AP US 2 because it conflicts with AP Chem on my schedule. So I am ‘unwillingly’ stepping down to US Hist 2 H. My guidance counselor will write that this happened becuase of a scedule conflict. Is this an okay decision? Will it affect my Ivy chances, since now I can only take 2 APs instead of 3 next (junior) year?
Thank You

Don’t worry about it. One class really isn’t going to change much, particularly if the step-down is due to a sched. conflict and if history isn’t your biggest passion.

This helps me feel better. Because I was considering taking Physics H next year so I could take AP US Hist 2. But Chem is what I really love. And I’m afraid that I’ll have another sched conflict if I wait until senior year to take AP Chem.

You are on the right track but grades, high scores and lots of APs will only get you so far. I saw so many kids with fantastic grades/scores rejected from the Ivies this year.

What seems to make the difference is a killer, unique essay and especially great ecs.

Find an area to concentrate in on your extra cirriculars. Go for quality not quantity of activities. Find a passion that is related to your chosen major.

Here is the thing I think is MOST important!

Do something OUTSIDE the realm of your high school. If you are in the sciences it seems to really help if you seek out research opportunities at a University or hospital. Business major? Start your own small business. There are so many students with great resumes, you have to somehow make yours stand out.

Good luck to you.

I see. Well, at temple I am database/networking lead, and I help run language classes. I think I will probably look for some research program thing at a Hospital–make myself look exceptional. I got a 184 (1840) on my PSAT, and I am planning on taking SAT classes over summer and junior yr. I also want to participate in the Scholastic Art Competition and get some kind of recognition. I don’t know what else I could do to make myself stand out. I am really into Art and Chem (as of now). I am interested in the genetics part of Bio. Any ideas of what I can do?

What are you going to major in? If you’re majoring in something like Engineering, there are a handful of schools that are much better and cheaper than Ivies.

I’m not sure what I want to major in, but I am thinking something along the lines of Chemistry…Here are ‘careers’ I am considering…
-BioChemical Engineering
-Pharmacy
-Orthodontistry
-Something w/ Genetics? > I don’t know if I want to really do this…
-Possibly Minor in Art
What colleges are good for above?

^^^actually it will hurt you in the end. you can take AP chem as a senior. you can only take us II as a junior. do you take art pass/fail?

Wait…so now i don’t know what to do. I want to take AP Chem b/c this way I’d be able to take AP Physics as a senior. Also, what if AP Chem conflicts w/ other classes senior year? I really don’t know what to do. Most people told me it wouldn’t matter if I dropped down in AP US Hist 2, as long as my guidance counselor writes that it was a sched conflict. Any advice?
