I got accepted to Rutgers Newark and not NB because of a flaw in my high school transcript but I was wondering if it’s worth transferring from the Newark business school to the one in NB after freshman year. I will be dorming at either one and do want a memorable college experience as well as job opportunities but Newark is closer to NYC for internships and more. College will be what I make out of it but is NB really that much better? Also, is dorming at Newark fun since it’s primarily a commuter campus? Studying at either one is not an issue for me as I am determined to get good grades. At this point, before making my final decision, I’m looking at the “extras” like parties, opportunities, friendships, location, etc.
NJ native, but I know nothing about Business as a field or major, but from lurking around my conclusion is that many students in your situation ask about this. In fact Rutgers NB Business is a highly sought after program (by students I’ve seen, lurking). You seem like you already know you want to be at NB. You just didn’t make it this time.
What is this flaw you’re talking about though? My excuse-radar is going off the charts though. Be real with yourself. Also, Rutgers had a record amount of applicants (rumor I heard) this year. Its going to get tougher from here on out.
Definately try again. Also find a back-up school with a business program you respect. SUNY schools? Penn State? TCNJ? So that you’re not stuck at Newark if you miss the mark again. What other schools have you gotten into?
Hi, thank you for responding. The flaw is that during my junior year I left school for two months because of a family situation in a foreign country that my school only excused half of, leaving me with no credit. This year and over the summer I’ve made up the credits to be able to graduate on time and it may have been a setback since I had a 3.8 GPA, high SAT scores, and class ranking that Rutgers NB looks for. I did explain the flaw in the application and a letter was sent by my counselor but it did not get me in. I did get into Widener University and St John’s University in Queens. Rutgers was not my first choice since many people from my school end up there but the costly loans at the other two schools are pushing me towards it. Are the loans worth it though? I do not want to transfer, which is why I avoided community college as an option.
While I am not sure about how the business program works, I am in your shoes atm. I got rejected from the main campus in Rutgers and got sent to Newark for their pre-engineering. It’s between this, NJIT, and the University of Delaware (which is quite hard for me to afford)
