Should I transfer from the University of Kentucky?

Hey guys. I'm currently a sophomore computer engineering at UK. My grades just came out and I was still able to keep that 4.0 GPA. I'm starting to feel like I could do really well in one of the more higher ranked universities such as UC Berkley or Cornell.

One of my issues is how lowly ranked UK is. We're ranked ~#100 and I feel like with my GPA and my SAT score (2190) I should be able to get in a nice school.

My issues include tuition... I pay in state tuition at UK and I have about 20% scholarship. Another thing that concerns me is whether risking a move is with it or not. I like my current university, but I definitely wouldn't mind a challenge. Do employers really look at the school name and rankings or are the student's involvement and grades more important?

Let me know what you think guys! Thanks.

Another option is to stay where you are, keep up your grades, and go for a master’s at the institution of your dreams.

The raw numbers way to look at it would be to figure out the increased cost to finish your degree at a more expensive institution vs. any increase in income. I’m guessing the payback period is so long, it probably isn’t worth doing, unless you can somehow get aid at the new school.

I agree with MrMom.

You would be full pay at Berkeley, and the vast majority of their transfers come from an in-state CC.

Why not try co-op?
