Hello guys,
So I got accepted to Babson (to my surprise) I have a really low sat score but that’s because I only took it once and was sick that day. My dream was always to go to an ivy or some place like Stanford or Berkely. I am really considering going to Babson for its entrepreneurship program but I don’t want to give up on my dream. Let’s say I decide to reapply to these schools should I go to Babson and apply as a transfer student or take a year off to work on my scores (everything else like ec’s are really good) PLEASE HELPPPPP!
If you really don’t want Babson, take a year off, take the act and sat as many times as you can , and try next year. Financial.aid and admission will be better if applying as a freshman., plus you’ll be a year older than your classmates which will make you more mature and confident. But try to do something interesting with the year off, like some sort of charity work and/or learning a foreign language really well.
That’s the thing I sort of like Babson but it’s not my dream school I don’t know what to dooo
What’s your budget for college? Is Bashing affordable?
My government is paying for my tuition (I’m international)… What do you mean by that exactly?
Unless your government has some sort of special arrangement with the colleges and universities on your list, the likelihood of you being admitted as an international applicant is very, very small. Look up the numbers that have come out this past week, and think carefully about whether it is worth it to you to reject a sure deal at Babson for the slight chance of admission at any of those other places.
For entrepreneurship, Babson is the top undergraduate program. For other business majors it is very near the top of the field. If you are interested in business, then I say go to Babson.
Were you admitted anywhere else? Then take a look at those programs and decide between one of them and Babson.
Odds of getting into those schools are minuscule, especially for an international. Go to the school that loves you (a dream school isn’t a dream school if they don’t accept you) and do really, really well. If you are truly the caliber of student who had a shot at those schools, you will be a superstar at Babson – which you can still leverage for grad school.
I just checked your other threads, and you are not from an underrepresented country – which would improve your chances. You do have nice ECs, but you would have to raise your scores a huge amount – honestly, the odds of being able to get the score increases you need are very, very low. Go to Babson and do a great job. If you do really, really well there, consider trying to transfer to another school (although there are a lot of schools a tier below your “dreams” that are very good, and more likely candidates for you as a transfer student).
I meant Babson… stupid autocorrect.
Babson has a top entrepreneurship program. You’re pleasantly surprised you got in… but are hesitating going? What made you apply? Certainly you may remember those reasons…
The problem with a ‘dream’ school is that the very idea is based on limited information. You build this dream on what you imagine a school might be like, but you have no idea of whether your dream matches reality. Furthermore, in your case the dream seems primarily predicated upon the schools’ prestige. But that in and of itself is not a good enough reason to give up admission to an excellent college.
The schools you are dreaming of have really low admissions rates. They are difficult to get into, especially as an international student. You may have been sick when you took the SAT, but a 1580 (all three sections) is just around the average. Even sickness wouldn’t lower the score of a student who was likely to get Ivy-level SAT scores by that much, unless you literally weren’t able to finish it. So I think it’s exceedingly unlikely that you raise your scores enough during your gap year to be competitive for those schools.
Anyway -
Babson is an excellent, excellent college that is really well known for business and very well known for entrepreneurship.
I think you shouldn’t do either - I think you should go to Babson with the mindset that you are going to stay there all four years. You can try to apply to a few schools as a transfer student next year if you like, just to see what happens. You can even retake the SAT while you are a student at Babson to try to get your scores up. If your ECs are truly as impressive as they sound from other threads, then it’s probaby just your SAT score holding you back, and if you stay involved on Babson’s campus and get good grades you are the type of student who actually has a shot at transferring. That said, though, I still think you should go in with the mindset that you will stay at Babson for four years and getting admitted as a transfer is a pleasant surprise.
Thank you for the response
That was really helpful, thanks.
Ok guys… All in all how good of a school is Babson, really?
Myos, honestly I applied thinking that I was going to get rejected by all schools and was already committing on taking a gap year… But when I got into Babson (which at first was the least school I wanted to go to but just applied to it to see what happens) I started second thinking the gap year thing.
Babson is a great school, but it’s very expensive.
If your government is truly paying, I would attend Babson (for all four years).
You’re very lucky to have been accepted with a 1580/2400. Don’t pass the opportunity!
Baboon is the top business-only university in the country. It’s highly ranked in most fields but especially for entrepreneurship. If your government is paying, you’re very lucky, and plan to attend all four years as it’s unlikely you can get into a higher r asked college.
Bashing, Baboon…I know what you’re thinking, jiggle, but really, some of us in the USA really CAN spell Babson.
Hahahahaha :'D
Never say never!!! Sorry for the Justin bieber reference haha. I just feel that if it weren’t for my sat scores I might have actually had a shot.
DAARRNN … LOL, sorry. :)) :(( Stupid autocorrect.
I DID mean “BABSON IS THE TOP BUSINESS-ONLY UNIVERSITY IN THE COUNTRY”
MYOS, until you get your auto-correct issues fixed, you should probably avoid any threads where Dartmouth is discussed. I’d hate to see how you might spell the Tuck School of Business.
