Should I transfer?

I have just enough units left that I cannot get it all done by fall '10 and with San Diego State University not accepting spring transfers, I would have to wait an entire year.

If I transferred in Fall '10, I would not have all my major prep done so when I get in I would have to spend the first semester finishing prep before I can declare and take any upper division classes. While this potentially cuts an entire semester out of school, the added costs of attendance are the obvious downside since that fall semester will be classes I can take at my community college for a fraction of the cost. My situation will be dependent on FAFSA once i get to SDSU, for at least my tuition and books, etc.

After reading this rambling, what do you think I should do? 1 extra year at a CC before transfer to save money or transfer and spend 1 semester finishing prep? I don't know much about FAFSA or how much I would/could get.

My understanding is that SDSU doesn’t give many institutional grants, you will probably be looking at whatever Federal and state grants you qualify for plus loans and work study. So figure out what you qualify for and see if it’s affordable without ending up with big loans.

do you know how I can find out what I qualify for? Is there a way to see even though I won’t be a student until next fall?

If you’ve never filed a FAFSA, you need to run the calculators at [:: College Planning Made Easy | Inside Source for College Admissions Requirements](http://www.collegeboard.com) to get an estimate of what your EFC is. Then you need to check the SDSU website to find out what their financial aid policies are.

Good luck!
