I've already applied to Emory RD for Goizueta Scholars and did not get selected. I got the e-mail for Oxford, and I was wondering if I should update my supplement essay to include Oxford. Will Oxford not accept you if you don't mention them in your essay?

Mentioning Oxford in an essay certainly helps, but the reality is, most students didn’t talk about the school in their common app supplements. I’m a bit of a college admissions nerd (hence why I spend so much time on this site), so I’ve spoken with students about their applications. By and large, except for the ED and a few students for whom Oxford was a clear first choice, myself included, they talked about how Emory, not Oxford, would help them academically, socially, and professionally. Oxford likes expressed interest, but the reality is, if it only admitted based on who showed interest in the school, the student body would probably be much smaller, and stats wise, much weaker.

I applied to both schools. I mentioned Oxford at the end of my essay in maybe a sentence or two, nothing much. I recently got accepted as a semifinalist for both Scholars programs. I would try and just mention Oxford a bit. (smaller classes, tight-knit community, etc.) But if you don’t change it, I don’t think it will make a significant difference.

If you update the essay, it’ll get updated in your application and Emory would too receive the change.
