Should I write about my 24-years-old sibling as dependent in CSS?

So I have an older brother who goes to a graduate school and my parents pay education expenses for him. But he is 24 years old so he is technically not a dependent as per IRS’s rule (only students younger than 24-years-old are regarded as dependent). Should I write about him as a dependent still in Household Summary?

What do the CSS Profile instructions say? “Dependent” won’t be defined the same way the IRS defines that term for tax purposes.

“10. Family Member Listing – Parent’s Household
This section goes over the additional people living in your household besides you and your parents, such as siblings. You’ll be asked to list educational and other expenses for these people that your parents are responsible for paying.” - https://www.goingmerry.com/blog/css-profile/#20—10-family-member-listing—parent%E2%80%99s-household–

A dependent on the CSS is someone that receives at least 50% of support from your parents. I put my 31-year-old sister and her kids as dependents because they had to move in due to COVID.

You can write all you want. It’s your undergrad colleges that will decide whether or not to count your brother in the student count. Some will and some were won’t.

Call the colleges and ask. They will tell you!
