My daughter is applying to Mt. Holyoke. Her ACT is 27 and her SAT is 1310 (660 reading, 670 math). It looks like her scores fall below the average range, so she is thinking of not sending them. Her GPA is 4.2 weighted, not sure what it is unweighted. Opinions?
Do not submit the ACT or any score that is below the mid 50%. But the SAT scores are higher and seem to fall within range, so those are fine to send
I’m reminded of what the ADCOM Officer said at Bowdoin. “Each year some send in standardized test scores who shouldn’t and some don’t who should.” Unless they are stellar and help her app by differentiating her as a top student, I wouldn’t. In this case, the GPA is stellar, but the SAT scores probably don’t reflect her aptitude. Competition is fierce. Just send in what you need to and only those things that are truly stellar.
Thank you!
I agree. I would not submit the scores. The GPA would speak well enough.
The OP’s daughter’s SATs are well within the mid 50% range. https://www.mtholyoke.edu/admission/class_profile
If she doesn’t submit her scores, I can guarantee that admissions will assume that she has very low test scores. How is that helpful?
And without knowing how the high school weighs GPAs, one can’t assume that the GPA will “speak well enough”.
A lot of the time, school’s won’t consider you for merit based scholarships unless you submit a score. Those scores are pretty go in actuality and so is the GPA. I’d submit them regardless for future reference.
