I’m planning to major in business, should my essays be about this topic? I’ve already written 3/4 and none talk about business. If I don’t mention it in my essays, will it hurt my admission chances? Also, on the UC application, do certain majors impact your chances of admission? (for example, applying under a popular major vs. applying under a less popular major)
Intended major can impact your chances depending upon campus and major. You could use prompt #6 if you want address why you selected your intended major. It is not required to have an essay about your intended major especially if your EC’s show your interest in that area. My advice is if you have a specific major in mind, apply to that major since several majors are difficult to switch into later if you are not a direct admit.
