So my counselor has this form thing where we describe ourselves. I’ve said curious, creative, loyal, passionate, etc etc. My teachers are also very open to suggestions, so should I ask them to write about which of the above traits I’ve displayed in the classroom/their clubs, or should I suggest something else? For example, I tended to ask a lot of questions in science class so it would accentuate my “curiosity” trait. I don’t know. Any suggestions? Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
You don’t want there to be dissonance or opposing characteristics. But they don’t have to be in lock step, either. Just because you list traits for teachers doesn’t mean they will end up using them. My kids just tried to portray their best qualities honestly. Worked out fine for them.
Also you want real information from teachers. Suggesting traits they can reflect on seems like some could end up like answers to short essay tests and they might think something you have done in their classes is a significant contribution to class.
There’s space on the LoR for them to list 3 characteristics. After that comes the descriptive writing. Give your personal words, if that’s appropriate in your hs, then let them pull this together. They should be experienced already, and they do know you, your work, etc, right?
If there’s something standout, sure, you can diplomatically mention it. But most high school seniors don’t really know how adults write to other adults, nor what the keypoints should be.
Eg, just asking questions isn’t what makes curiosity.
