Should we panic yet???

Hi guys,
S applied online mid-Oct. Did not do Honors College. Applied as Business Major. SAT's received, it seems like transcripts have been holding things up-they went out beg. of Nov. but when we called several times, they said they don't have them (they must be at the BOTTOM of basket). They said if they are missing something, they will let us know. (Don't bug us anymore is message I get). Kids son knows who applied later online have heard and S is beginning to panic. Does anyone know how reg. admission works? All we have heard is they will let you know 4-6 weeks after all materials have arrived.
Thanks so much. Sept. mom

I noticed something on the USC website that applications were way up again and that decisions woud be a little bit delayed. They are probably bogged down - don't worry.
My D applied fairly early but did not hear as quickly as we had thought we would. She ended up with scholarships and the Capstone scholars invite, so I would not panic about timing yet.
Good luck!

Congrats to daughter. Has she decided if she is going to SC? After son applied, he kept getting messages about doing honors program, but S did not qualify as his SAT scores were below criteria. When we saw the honors application-YIKES! Kudos to all those who filled that out-it was very extensive!
Thanks for replying. S has heard yes from 2 schools and deferred at one, so at least he will go somewhere. Feel badly for those kids who have not heard. S did EA at all schools he could just to take some stress off.

My daughter is at freshman this year in the capstone program. Feel free to send us any questions you might have!

seems like an extra long delay to me...Nov to now.Kids who applied in Dec have heard already.
have you asked to speak to a real admissions person with your questions...or just spoken to the person who answers the phone (who may likely be a work study kid..and may be giving you a stock answer)
also, maybe the business school aspect is holding it up,perhaps his app is out to them to be evaluated..maybe call them to see?

Thanks cathymee,
Will wait a few more days and then give a call out. Hate to keep bugging these poor folks, sure they are overwhelmed. Some of the schools have a nice system online that you can check in to see what they received and when they got it. It gives you some piece of mind that things weren't lost in the shuffle. At some high schools in area, parents can get transcripts and then send then certified mail so they know they were recvd. Our high school does not let us do that. Will keep you guys posted.

i hope by now you have heard good news...but I just wanted to share our experience. My son applied online in August, I believe..as soon as registration opened. He was accepted in October. However, he is a computer engineering major and USC is having a push to up the number of engineering majors, I believe. I do know that the school of business is extremely competetive, as it is top-rated in the nation. Perhaps it takes a little bit longer since applications are up this year with that major. Also, the university has been closed for Christmas holidays and does not re-open until Jan. 16th, for this semester. I read in the newspaper (we live in Greenville, about 2 hours away) that USC was going to be sending out some acceptances in early to mid-spring during to the tremendous number of applications. They do have to receive everything, though, before they can process...transcripts, etc. Hope you hear some good news very soon! We are still waiting to hear about Capstone, though...I understand that won't come out until March or April.Whenever I have called USC, everyone has been wonderful and helpful.

Have still not heard yet, but S did apply as a Business major. Have heard the same thing from a few other people regarding volume of applications and delay with notification to Business school. I have not yet followed up with a phone call, but will this week. I know they are busy and don't want to keep bugging them, but S applied online in October and have not heard that they are missing items needed.

septembermom, you are not alone. D applied late Oct. Transcript arrived mid Nov. She, along with all of her friends that missed the Nov.1 deadline, are still waiting. She did receive a postcard just before Christmas, saying that applications were way up and if she was missing any items she would be notified.

Quick Update to All,
Son received his packet yesterday (Big Envelope!) and was accepted at S.C. I want to thank all who replied to our panic state and offered advice and answers to our questions. I did not call to check status during this time. We took a "wait and see" approach. Hope everyone who is waiting hears soon.

congrats to septembermom's S !!When will you go visit (if you havent already?)

Hi Cathymee,
We visited S.C. last April school vacation. Had a whirlwind visit of 15 schools in a week and loved them all (son did elimated about 7 from our visits). He and his dad will revisit this upcoming April (my daughter is not too keen on visiting colleges again, so I will stay home with her and the dog!) I'm sure I will check in with you with lots of questions. Everyone has been so helpful the past few weeks and has lots of information to share.

if you want we'll arrange a private tourguide LOL!

"So far, USC has processed about one third of the applications we have received, so we still have a long way to go and most of our applicants have not yet received a decision. We are admitting students every day, and our goal is to have all decisions made and letters in the mail the first week in March. So, if you have not yet heard a decision, please don't fret or get discouraged. Just a few more weeks to go...."

Septembermom---
Apparently, USC is planning some type of open house in in April. My son was accepted in the fall, and yesterday he got a 4-page newsletter "for accepted students." The April date says it is "USC's spring homecoming, Carolina Showcase. Includes open house, academic dept. displays, concerts, cookout, etc. Says more info and the date will be sent in March. Also, they are giving some placement tests in April for SC students. Newsletter also says "May- June: One-day freshman orientation programs." No exact dates yet. USC has been the absolute BEST about keeping us informed! S was accepted at 3 schools, but I am so impressed about the way USC puts info into the hands of parents. They have been great!

I'm glad you posted that. We didn't get the mail yet today (Saturday), but we are up North so we may not get anything until next week.

I was trying to figure out when I could do a quick fly down to revisit....now I know at least that I will wait until March...........

Thank you so much for posting that!!!

Hoping that comes in our mail too, it sounds like a blast.

Last year there was a Scholar's Day in March for students receiving substantial scholarships. The orientation days were spread over many weeks - you could go on-line and sign up for the date that you wanted. Some dates were for specific majors, or Honor's Students, but plenty of dates to choose from.
I would recommend that you choose an early date if possible because you sign up for your classes and some will fill up. We went late and my daughter was unable to get her language class. She still ended up with a great schedule but would have had more choices earlier.

Last year DD was not able to attend the scholarship weekend in March because it was the same weekend as our All State Music festival. She and DH went to USC the weekend of the Carolina Showcase instead. Usually this is a great outdoor fair type event on the Horseshoe. Sadly, last year, it rained and it was held inside (I think in the Strom Center). So...if your child receives a scholarship other than McNair or Carolina, they should receive an invitation to come to the scholars open house in March (assuming they are having that this year). All admitted students are invited to Carolina Showcase.

be aware if you are planning a visit other than the Showcase or Scholar's Day the Spring Break for USC is March 10-18th.The dorms will mostly be closed and there will be no tours.
