Am I the only one who is not going to get all excited and make plans until Financial/Merit Aid is known?

My DS does not want to come out of college with almost 200K of debt.

Anyone else feel this way?

I feel the same way; I mean, getting an acceptance is REALLY exciting, but I can’t make any commitments until I know everything about my financial package…

I’m sure MOST people feel this way. BUT…at least you’ve jumped the first hurdle. THAT feels good anyway.

I feel this way! Just got into Chicago, and the joyous moment was ruined when I saw the offered financial aid (or lack there of).

I feel the same way. I’m still trying to decide between schools (and I’m still waiting to hear from 3), but NYU is my first choice at the moment. I know my parents can’t afford it, but I hear that NYU doesn’t give out much financial aid. It’s one of the best schools for film, which is what I’ll be studying, but I don’t want to be in a large amount of debt.

My parents are saying that we’ll try to make it work, but I know that most of the loans will go to me. I don’t want to be 200k in debt after college. I mean, I have to pay for med school, too! :(

I agree with you DonnaMom. I got the crpytic acceptance email and although that is REALLY REALLY EXCITING, im still waiting for scholarship and financial aid info before I make my decision.

since my family has an efc of 0, it is sooo important that NYU gives me good financial aid. so far other’s schools are offering me enough money so im in the 30,000-50,000 debt range for all for years (Temple, Drexel) . im scared that NYU won’t be able to compare to these schools.

Does the fact that im in LSP make their package any different?

My DS has gotten very generous merit aid from other schools so I have a feeling that NYU is not going to happen for him.

I feel exactly the same way. I am currently emailing back and forth with one college over my financial aid, waiting on two (NYU one of them), and then whether I am accepted to another. Money is a huge factor! So I am crossing my fingers to be one of the lucky ones that get amazing aid. I can dream. So once the dream is likely crushed, I can at least say I was good enough to get in.

My worst fear, though, is that I will get “good” aid, but it will be a few thousand shy of being affordable. That would be the worst possible thing for me. Because it will have been SOOO close but so far away.
