Step-Siblings on a college application.

When a college application asks for siblings and if they are/have been in college, does that include step-siblings? I doubt I could get into contact with any of my step-brothers, so I'm wondering if the easy way out would be just not to mention them, and if I can do that.

If the application question is just a general question, there is no need to mention step-siblings with whom you have little or no contact.

If the answer might somehow affect financial aid, that's a different story. IF the step-siblings are dependents of a parent/step-parent for whom you have provided financial info on the FAFSA or Profile (or institutional financial aid application), you need to include their names/schools. Why? Because they would be part of the household size and number in college (if currently in college) for your parents. If they are not dependent, there is no need to list them.

Ok, thank you!
